Inquiry into cricketer’s pro-Israeli comments

SA under-19 captain David Teeger's comments at the ABSA Jewish Achievers Awards Ceremony on 26 October will be the subject of an independent inquiry led by Advocate Wim Trengove SC, Cricket SA (CSA) announced yesterday. CSA held a board meeting on Saturday, where Teeger's comments in support of Israeli soldiers were discussed. News24 reports that the inquiry's outcomes may have an impact on his availability for next year's Under-19 Cricket World Cup which SA will be hosting. ‘Yes, I’ve been (given) this award, and yes, I'm now the rising star, but the true rising stars are the young soldiers in Israel,’ Teeger said at the time. His comments were flagged by the Palestine Solidarity Alliance, who then laid a complaint with both CSA and the Central Gauteng Lions. CSA said it will appoint an independent inquiry to see whether Teeger's comments violated the CSA codes of conduct.
