* There have been no marriages in a village in Nigeria’s Kano state after the local chief imposed a wedding tax. Ado Sa'id wants grooms to pay $377 instead of the current custom of presenting gifts to the bride's family. One villager, Isah Kera, said some couples were getting married elsewhere.
