A Sudanese court has sentenced 27 intelligence agents to death for torturing and killing a protester a year ago. The defendants were found guilty of torturing Ahmed al-Kheir Awadh to death. A report on the News24 site notes that the teacher had been arrested by intelligence operatives in Kassala state in eastern Sudan. Justice Sadok Albdelrahman ordered them to be hanged. Sudanese took to the streets from December 2018, initially to protest against high bread prices, but the demonstrations soon turned into demands for autocrat Omar al-Bashir to step down.
