Operations suspended at key oil field

Publish date: 09 September 2024

Libya’s state National Oil Corporation (NOC) has declared a state of force majeure at its El-Feel crude oil field with immediate effect. The Libya Herald reports that it said the measures would not be applicable to other hydrocarbons operations and the NOC ‘will notify of returning to normal situation as soon as the circumstances allow’. The closure of the field by the eastern-based Hafter regime is a result of the Central Bank of Libya (CBL) crisis which saw militias storm the bank late last month. On 29 August, the NOC revealed that Libya had lost $120.3m between 26 to 28 August when oil production dropped sharply. The newly installed CBL administration claims it has gained control of all its banking systems.
