Mugabe’s son entered SA illegally

Former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe’s youngest son, Bellarmine, has been living in SA illegally and was once denied entry into the country, City Press has learnt. Bellarmine and his bodyguard, Tobias Mugabe Matonhdze, appeared in court last week facing charges of attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and defeating the ends of justice. Sources said Bellarmine had overstayed his visit. Zimbabweans with valid passports are granted a maximum of three months per visit before having to return to their country. His lawyers were ready to apply for bail a week ago, but were informed by police that he was in the country illegally and therefore not eligible. City Press has obtained Bellarmine’s travel records, which show he was previously found to be in possession of fraudulent visa documentation. He was returned from Lanseria Airport last year after officials detected irregularities in his travel documents. He later re-entered the country. He has been charged with shooting a gardener at his Hyde Park property last month.
