Mnangagwa’s detained daughter-in-law apologises

Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s daughter-in-law, Kelsea Tadiwa Tafirenyika, in custody on drug possession and money laundering charges, has apologised to first lady Auxilia Mnangagwa for ‘scandalising’ the family. Her lawyers, Admire Rubaya and Everson Chatambudza, distanced themselves from what has since turned out to be a spectacle in corridors of power, saying Tafirenyika is ‘not a party to that scandalous enterprise, and neither are we’. News24 reports that Tafirenyika was arrested on 4 August and sent to the notorious Chikurubi Maximum Prison on the outskirts of Harare on charges of drug possession. Soon after being granted bail of $1 000, she was rearrested on money laundering charges involving cars and real estate in Zimbabwe, Dubai and SA valued at $10m.
