Islamist ‘recruiter’ detained

The Mozambican defence and security forces have confirmed the arrest of a man accused of recruiting new members for the Islamist terrorist groups operating in the northern province of Cabo Delgado. The Carta de Mocambique publication has identified the suspect as Joseph Kumocho who allegedly recruited 72 young men in the coastal district of Macomkia to join the jihadists. A report on the allAfrica site notes that hundreds of people have been killed and thousands more displaced in the region in recent months. About 50 schools and crèches have been abandoned.
