Fourth arrest in high-profile murder case

Detectives believe they have made a major break in the hunt for the killers of university student Sharon Otieno and her unborn baby following the arrest of a fourth suspect. The Nation reports that police said Grado Ocholla’s vehicle was used in the kidnap of Otieno and journalist Barrack Oduor just hours before the murder. Oduor escaped by jumping from the speeding vehicle, police say. The Nation reports that the other suspects are Migori governor Zakary Obado and his aides Michael Oyamo and Casper Obiero. Investigators say Ocholla’s phone must be submitted to the cyber crime unit for forensic examination. The Kiambu Magistrate's Court has allowed police to detain Ocholla for 10 more days. As previously reported in Legalbrief Today, High Court Judge Jessie Lessit last week ruled that there was circumstantial evidence linking the governor to the murder but she granted him $50 000 bail after noting that it would be dangerous to use the circumstantial evidence to prevent his release. His pregnant young lover’s body was found dumped in a forest earlier this month. A post-mortem showed that Otieno had likely been raped, strangled and stabbed multiple times before dying.
