Chidimma Adetshina was named the runner-up at the Miss Universe pageant in Mexico City on Sunday as News24 reports that Adetshina expressed gratitude to Nigeria on Instagram after withdrawing from the 2024 Miss South Africa pageant due to allegations of identity fraud involving her parents. Adetshina lost the crown to 21-year-old Victoria Kjær Theilvig, a dancer, entrepreneur, and aspiring lawyer representing Denmark. Petitions to exclude her from the Miss Universe competition proved fruitless despite South Africa's Home Affairs Department initiating the process to revoke her SA identity and travel documents. In her Instagram post, Adetshina reflected on the support she received from Nigeria, describing it as a ‘second chance at life’. Speaking from his home in Cape Town, Adetshina's father, Michael Adetshina, said that he was proud of his daughter while reflecting on the social media bullying she was subjected to following the Home Affairs allegations.
