Despite his best efforts to paper over the cracks in government during a question and answer session in Parliament yesterday, President Jacob Zuma was confronted by more divisions, notes Legalbrief. While the President said the claims – made by his deputy, Cyril Ramaphosa, among others – that the government was at war with itself were not true, he found himself at the centre of a battle over his future between two ANC-aligned business bodies. He would also have heard ANC head of economic transformation Enoch Godongwana saying in a television interview that he believes the end goal for the Hawks’ investigation into Pravin Gordhan is to weaken the Finance Minister’s fight against corruption.
