A Belgian court has ordered a halt to the deportation of 24 Sudanese migrants following an uproar over Belgium's invitation to the authorities in Khartoum to identify them. Belgium authorities said they would challenge the ban issued by a court in Liege amid fears the migrants risked being mistreated on their return. A report on the News24 site notes that Sudanese officials last month visited Belgium to help identify the migrants, prompting the League of Human Rights to accuse Brussels of collaborating with ‘one of the worst dictatorships’ in the world. ‘They are all terrorised by the idea of returning to Sudan,’ the league said.
