Former President blocked from publishing autobiography

Publish date: 08 December 2014

The Abuja High Court has blocked former President Olusegun Obasanjo from proceeding with plans to publish his autobiography My Watch.

The Tribune reports that Justice Valentine Ashi of Abuja High Court was ruling on the application brought by Peoples Democratic Party official Buruji Kashamu. The book addresses Obasanjo's December 2013 letter to President Goodluck Jonathan and former PDP national chairperson, Bamanga Tukur, in which he (Obasanjo) claimed that Kashamu was allegedly a fugitive wanted in the US. The court ruled that since the content of the letter was the subject of a libel suit Kashamu client filed against Obasanjo, which is still pending before the court, it was wrong for the former President 'to be allowed to comment on, write books about or make publications on the issue yet to be decided by the court'.
