Newly-inaugurated President Hakainde Hichilema has replaced the chiefs of the army, air force, national service and police. The Lusaka Times reports that Hichilema said his government would implement a fair policing and judicial system but called on citizens not to demonise the former commanders. ‘We promised freedom, freedom has come … but it will be exercised within the law,’ Hichilema said. Zambian Deputy Army Commander Denis Sitali Alibuwizi is now the new Army Commander and the new Air Force Commander is Brigadier-General Collins Barry. Remmy Kajoba has been recalled from retirement and is now the Inspector General of Police. All 10 police commissioners from the provinces have been dropped.
