The Faculty of Law is looking to fill a vacancy in the Department of Private Law. The main responsibility of the incumbent will be to contribute to excellence in the Faculty of Law. The incumbent will lecture primarily in the field of the Law of Succession, but will also assume further teaching responsibilities within the Department and Faculty, taking into account relevant factors. The incumbent will furthermore conduct research that focuses on the Law of Succession and provide postgraduate supervision that focuses on the Law of Succession. The incumbent must also contribute to the administrative functioning of the Faculty, and perform other duties as assigned by the Faculty.

The Department of Private Law is responsible for teaching several of the core modules in the LLB curriculum. This includes the Law of Persons, Family Law, African Customary Law, Law of Succession, Property Law, Law of Civil Procedure, Law of Contract, Law of Delict and Specific Contracts. The Department also offers various electives at final year level and a selection of modules at postgraduate level, including the Law of Trusts. The Department also has a strong focus on research within these fields as well as other private law areas.

 Duties:

• Lecturing in the Law of Succession and other law modules;
• Actively researching, writing and publishing in the assigned field(s) of law;
• Postgraduate supervision;
• Contributing to the administrative functioning of the Faculty;
• Performing such other duties as assigned by the Faculty.

Requirements:

• An LLD or an appropriate PhD (for appointment as Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer);
• An LLM in private law or associated areas (for appointment as Lecturer);
• An established publication record (for appointment as Associate Professor) or at least some publications (for appointment as Senior Lecturer or Lecturer);
• Experience in postgraduate mentorship and supervision (for appointment as Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer);
• Experience in undergraduate teaching.

 Recommendations:

• A strong interest in research;
• Good interpersonal relationships;
• Experience teaching Law of Succession at undergraduate level;
• An LLM that focuses on the Law of Succession or Trust Law (for appointment as Lecturer);
• Legal practical experience;
• Multilingualism;
• A strong academic record.

Commencement of duties: 1 January 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter

Die Regsfakulteit beskik oor ’n vakature in die Departement Privaatreg. As hoofverantwoordelikheid sal die posbekleër ’n bydrae moet maak tot uitnemendheid in die Regsfakulteit. Die posbekleër sal primêr in die gebied van die Erfreg doseer, maar sal ook verdere onderrigverpligtinge binne die Departement of Fakulteit moet opneem, met inagneming van toepaslike faktore. Die posbekleër sal voorts navorsing moet doen wat fokus op die Erfreg en nagraadse begeleiding moet verskaf wat fokus op die Erfreg. Die posbekleër sal ook moet bydra tot die administratiewe funksionering van die Fakulteit, asook ander take verrig soos deur die Fakulteit toegewys.

Die Departement Privaatreg is verantwoordelik vir die onderrig van verskeie van die kern-modules in die LLB-kurrikulum. Dit sluit in Personereg, Familiereg, Afrika Gewoontereg, Erfreg, Sakereg, Siviele Prosesreg, Kontraktereg, Deliktereg en Spesifieke Kontrakte. Die Departement bied ook verskeie keuse-modules op finalejaar-vlak aan en ʼn keuse van modules op nagraadse vlak, met inbegrip van Trustreg. Die Departement het ook ʼn sterk fokus op navorsing binne hierdie velde asook ander privaatreg-areas.

Pligte:

• Onderrig in Erfreg en ander regsmodules;
• Aktiewe navorsing, skryf en publikasie in die toegewyse regsrigting(s);
• Nagraadse studieleiding;
• Bydrae tot die administratiewe funksionering van die Fakulteit;
• Uitvoering van ander take soos deur die Fakulteit toegewys. 

Vereistes:

• ʼn LLD of ʼn toepaslike PhD (vir aanstelling op Medeprofessoraat- of Senior Lektoraatvlak);
• ‘n LLM in privaatreg of verwante areas (vir aanstelling op Lektoraatvlak);
• Bewese publikasierekord (vir aanstelling op Medeprofessoraatvlak) of minstens sommige publikasies (vir aanstelling op Senior Lektoraat- of Lektoraatvlak);
• Ervaring van nagraadse mentorskap en studieleiding (vir aanstelling op Medeprofessoraat- of Senior Lektoraatvlak);
• Ervaring van voorgraadse onderrig.
