Legislation: New Seta landscape gazetted
The revised configuration of sector education and training authorities (Setas) set to be implemented from 1 April 2020 has been gazetted – well within 100 days of last month’s State of the Nation Address, a deadline mentioned by Higher Education & Training Deputy Minister Buti Manamela in his recent budget vote speech, notes Pam Saxby for Legalbrief Policy Watch. The Deputy Minister also alluded to regulations strengthening oversight with the aim of ensuring ‘sound governance and effective management’; requiring Setas to increase their support for occupational programmes; reinforcing their working relationships with technical and vocational education and training and community colleges; and requiring Setas to play a role in ‘expanding’ the department’s career guidance and development programme. These could well be released before the end of the year in draft form for comment.
