Well-known attorney held over shooting

A well-known Johannesburg attorney spent the weekend in jail and will appear in court today after allegedly fatally shooting a former client.

A report in The Star says Kevin Trytsman, a 50-year-old private investigator, died after he was shot twice in the chest at the attorney's eighth-floor office at the Bedford Centre in Bedfordview. An attorney and a conveyancer, he was one of three attorneys brought before the Law Society of the Northern Provinces last year after a complaint of professional misconduct was lodged against them. He and two others had represented Vodacom in a case in which a family allege that the cellular operator took possession of the family home by 'making' family members sign purchase papers 'under duress'. According to a Beeld report, Trytsman was named during the Truth and Reconciliation Committee proceedings as being involved in the murder of Wits academic David Webster and for his alleged ties with the Civil Co-Operation Bureau.
