Tiger denies meeting was to fix bread prices
In a high profile competition case on the fixing of bread prices in the Western Cape, food giant Tiger Brands has denied that a meeting between staff of its subsidiary, Tiger Food Brands, and its major competitors in December, was arranged to discuss bread prices.
According to Business Day, the group said in an affidavit filed with the Competition Tribunal that it had launched an investigation as soon as it became aware of the complaint, and found that the meeting between employees of Tiger Brands, Pioneer Foods and Premier Food was to discuss the theft of bread crates, that is a serious industry problem in the Western Cape, and other matters not pertaining to prices. The affidavit comes after the Competition Commission last month referred a case against Tiger Food Brands and Pioneer Foods to the Tribunal. Full Business Day report
