Sony Computers loses lawsuit

Sony Computer Entertainment America, which has been found guilty of infringing two patents, has cough up $82m to rival Immersion Corporation, according to a report in The Recorder.

Immersion, which sells hardware and software technology that allows users to interact with digital devices, such as computer joysticks and medical procedure simulators, sued Sony and Microsoft in 2002, alleging that the companies improperly used company technology in their popular PlayStation 2 and Xbox gaming consoles. Microsoft settled out of the case last year. The jury also found that Sony had not wilfully infringed Immersion\'s patents, which would have allowed treble damages. Full report in The Recorder
