Salary for life for judges should be debated De Lange
Deputy Justice Minister Johnny de Lange says if judges want to work for money without permission after retirement, then the issue of a full salary for life should also be debated, according to a Business Day report.

The Bill is one of a package of Bills aimed at transforming the judiciary. Two of the Bills, the Superior Courts Bill and the Constitutional Amendment Bill, have already been shelved after protests that they affected the independence of the judiciary. De Lange said the matter was before Parliament and should be discussed there, but proceeded to strongly suggest that if post-retirement work was up for debate then the way in which judges were paid should be debated, too.
