Saddam would be executed by an Iraqi judge

One of Iraq\'s leading Shi\'ite Muslim politicians said yesterday he was convinced Saddam Hussein would be executed if an Iraqi could heard his case, reports The Mercury.

\'Absolutely, Saddam will be executed,\' Abdel-Aziz Al-Hakim, the head of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq, told Al-Arabiya TV. \'If there is a just government and judicial system and if there is an Iraqi decision, he cannot be given amnesty because of all the crimes he has committed.\' No date has been set for the trial of the former Iraqi strongman, who has been charged with various crimes, including killing rival politicians more than 30 years ago, gassing Kurds in Halabja in 1988, invading Kuwait in 1990 and suppressing the Kurdish and Shi\'ite uprisings.
