Roberts to petition SCA over defamation ruling
Author and political commentator Ronald Suresh Roberts is to petition the Supreme Court of Appeal to grant him leave to challenge a judgment that went against him following a defamation action he brought against Johncom Media Investments, publisher of the Sunday Times.
Business Day notes Roberts applied to Acting Judge Leslie Weinkove in March for leave to appeal against Weinkoves judgment. His petition was turned down with Weinkove saying there was no prospect of another court coming to a different conclusion. Roberts said in an affidavit that there was a reasonable prospect that another court might come to a different conclusion to that of Weinkoves in relation to the evidence, and has sought leave to appeal against the entire judgment. Johncoms lawyers have a month to respond to the application. Full Business Day report
