Pinochet to remain under house arrest until trial

Former dictator General Augusto Pinochet will remain under house arrest until he goes on trial for nine kidnappings and one homicide allegedly committed during his long rule.

Chile’s Supreme Court, reports The Guardian, upheld the indictment and house arrest ordered on December 13 by Judge Juan Guzman, which had been questioned by Pinochet\'s defence lawyers, who claim he is not well enough to stand trial. Pinochet suffered a stroke in December. In 2002 the Supreme Court struck down an indictment filed by Judge Guzman against Pinochet in another human rights case, after doctors diagnosed the former dictator with a moderate case of dementia.
