NPA awaits Mauritius decision on Zuma papers
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) expects the Mauritian Government to make a decision soon on whether to release documents relating to the alleged corruption of former Deputy President Jacob Zuma.
A report in The Times quotes NPA spokesperson Panyaza Lesufi as saying the State had been following the proper protocol in Mauritius. All the letters and legal procedures have been followed and we are now waiting for a decision from the Mauritian Government, he said. The 14 documents are necessary to the States investigation of Zuma. The State also seeks the diary of Alain Thethard, the former head of the French arms manufacturer Thint, that allegedly documents a meeting with JZ and SS. It is alleged it was at this meeting that a R500 000 a year bribe was discussed. The States successful application for a letter of request to the Mauritian authorities is being taken on appeal. It will be heard before the Supreme Court of Appeal on September 21. Full report in The Times
