Mom guilty of killing her sons

Sharon Soombar (35), the mother of two young children murdered almost two years ago in a hotel room at Carnival City, has been convicted of killing them.

Her husband and co-accused Donovan Soombar (34) was acquitted of murdering Aiden (9) and Aston (12), according to a Beeld report. Brakpan Regional Court Magistrate Johan van Zyl found in his judgment that Sharon was the most-likely parent to have killed the two children. He said there still was no clarity before the court about exactly how the children had died as Soombar had not taken the court into her confidence. ‘Mr Soombar denies any part in the death of the two boys, but Mrs Soombar said they joined forces to kill the children and, after that, themselves.’ He added: ‘There is no evidence before this court which links Mr Soombar with carrying out the murders. The only incriminating evidence against him was the testimony of his wife who is, in any case, an extremely unreliable witness with a great interest in the court case resulting in the best for her.’ He said it was clear the mother had the motive, the opportunity and the means to murder the two children.
