Ministers property in sale of execution
Arts and Culture Minister Pallo Jordan and SABC CE Dali Mpofu are set to lose properties they bought in Yeoville, Johannesburg, for failing to pay levies, which have now escalated to R100 000 and R50 000 respectively.
A Financial Mail report says it is understood that Jordan and Mpofu bought their flats in the Rockview building in Percy Street and The Towers (Bezuidenhout Street) in 1992, but have not paid rates and services for several years. Widespread non-payment of levies in these buildings has resulted in poor maintenance and decay. In an effort to turn the fortunes of these buildings around, their respective bodies corporate resolved to tackle all defaulting owners. The matter was sent to court in a bid to recover the arrears. Summonses were issued against Jordan and Mpofu, among others, more than a year ago, ordering them to pay the outstanding amounts. When they failed to do so, a judgment ordering a sale in execution against the properties was reached. Full Financial Mail report (subscription needed)
