Medical school lecturers suspended

Four lecturers from the Nelson Mandela School of Medicine in KwaZulu-Natal have been suspended, says an SABC News report.

They are alleged to be involved in a row over allegations of racism and leaked examination papers. Their suspensions coincide with the release of report compiled after an investigation into the incidents. Earlier this year, students at this medical school embarked on an academic boycott in protest over the alleged racial incidents as well as claims of nepotism and incompetency. Leana Uys, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, says: ‘There is no doubt that this report and the actions we are going to take from this report will impact seriously on learning and especially on the staff, but on the other hand we have to take this seriously, we can\'t ask for an inquiry, get results and then do nothing.’ Full SABC News report
