Lego wins battle against Mega Bloks

A Netherlands District Court in Breda has ruled in favour of Danish toy titan Lego AS, which asked the court to stop Canadian rival Mega Bloks Inc from selling mini-bricks similar to its iconic building blocks.

The Globe and Mail reports Montreal-based Mega Bloks said the company would appeal against the ruling, which said Mega Bloks could not sell bricks that could be mistaken for the Lego product in that country. Mega Bloks had asked the court to confirm that it can lawfully sell its mini and micro bricks in the Netherlands. The court, however, ruled that there was a risk Mega Bloks\' products, and those of Lego, would be confused in the mind of the consumer, and there was no reason Mega Bloks could not market bricks of different dimensions, a different appearance or different interlocking systems.
