Law not dealing with counterfeit goods effectively
The Recording Industry of SA is concerned that counterfeiting and piracy have grown at an alarming rate, but is not receiving the desired attention from law enforcement agencies, according to a report in The Mercury.
The industrys general manager David du Plessis said this area of crime was neglected and often considered frivolous since it affected entertainment products mostly. The reality is that piracy has a negative effect on medical products, aircraft and vehicle spare parts, clothing, music, CDs and computer software, all resulting in losses to these companies and a knock-on effect on our economy.
