Judges pay Langa sets up meeting
A committee of judiciary officials is to meet the Moseneke Commission soon to discuss pay increases, according to Chief Justice Pius Langa.
He was speaking after a heads of court meeting in Johannesburg yesterday that was called to discuss the unhappiness certain justice officials had with their salary increases as proposed by the commission. A report in The Mercury says the Moseneke Commission proposed a 17% hike for ordinary judges to about R1.1m a year, with increases of between 40% and 65% for senior judges. However, some judges have raised concern at the increasing gap between the salaries of ordinary and senior judges. Full report in The Mercury (subscription needed)
