Green law proposed for car sales
Draft legislation to be published this year and expected to come into effect in January 2008 will require all car dealers to inform prospective buyers of exactly how fuel efficient their choice of car is and the level of greenhouse gases each car emits.
According to a report in The Witness, under the legislation, each showroom vehicle would have to display a label informing would-be buyers of the cars fuel economy litre consumption per 100 km and the amount in grams of carbon dioxide the car would emit for a kilometre travelled. Motoring organisations welcomed the proposed legislation, saying that it would bring SA motorists in line with international labelling requirements. Full report in The Witness
