Genocide charge laid against Malema at ICC

A Rustenburg man has laid charges of genocide against ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, according to a Beeld report.

Government and other highly placed officials are also accused, but not named, in the documents the paper says it has had access to. They will allegedly be named later. The complainant's attorney, Fanie van der Walt, confirmed that his client and his family had left the country because of safety concerns and will return only if the ICC can guarantee his safety. They are relying on the Rome Statute in terms of which incitement to genocide is an offence. The documents claim that Malema has continuously urged people to 'kill the boer' in the national and international media despite several requests to stop doing so and in the face of an interdict by the High Court.
