Court refuses man\'s application for his 74th gun

The Pretoria High Court has turned down an application by a Lynnwood businessman for a licence for his 74th gun, says a report on the News24 site.

Acting Judge Mahomed Ismail said he had to look at ‘other competing interests’ when he refused to overrule a decision by the Firearms Appeal Board (FAB) not to grant Peter Lazarides a licence for his .50 Browning Musgrave rifle. ‘The commissioner (of the FAB) when he exercised his discretion to grant or refuse a firearm licence had to look at other competing interests apart from the applicant\'s,’ said Ismail. ‘He had to consider the applicant\'s interest together with that of the society and the norms and values of the community.’ Lazarides applied for a licence on the basis that he was a collector of various hand and military guns.
