Breytenbach facing arrest on new charges
Glynnis Breytenbach faces arrest again – this time on separate charges of defeating the ends of justice and corruption involving the rigging of multimillion-rand tender contracts, says a report in The Mercury. The DA MP and former NPA prosecutor is accused of abusing her prosecutorial power to influence the outcome of the awarding of the tenders involving a medical aid scheme and projects in the construction industry related to the 2010 Fifa World Cup, the report says. A week ago, Breytenbach was granted bail of R10 000 when she appeared at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court for contravening the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Act. In that case, the State alleges that Breytenbach refused to hand in her work laptop and allegedly deleted evidence from it while she faced an internal investigation for misconduct in 2012. Breytenbach said yesterday: ‘I have no comment, I don’t care what the Hawks are doing.’ Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said their investigations were at an advanced stage and that they could arrest Breytenbach soon.
