Authorities want cars of drunk drivers seized

The Eastern Cape traffic authorities have applied to the Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) to have seven cars confiscated because they are regarded as instruments of crime, says the Daily Dispatch.

The news came as the department warned that road hooligans would face ‘the full might of the law’, including having the AFU taking away their cars. Earlier this year, a court ruling in the Western Cape allowed the AFU to confiscate the vehicle of a man charged with three serious traffic offences. One of the latest applications involves a taxi driver who was caught 13 times over the legal blood-alcohol limit. Full Daily Dispatch report
