Adidas sues clothing retailer over stripes
Adidas has sued US clothing retailer Abercrombie & Fitch for trademark infringement after the company used a three-stripe design on a new line of casual clothes.
Out-Law.com reports Adidas claims the A&F range of trousers and a sweat shirt have stripes too similar to the German sportswear companys own well-known trademark consisting of three parallel stripes. Last year Adidas lost a case against UK company Fitnessworld Trading Ltd over sportswear that included two parallel stripes on either side seam.

In another trademark suit by Adidas, a German court has ordered Nike to stop selling a pair of work-out pants with two parallel stripes stitched along the seam because it resembles Adidas three-stripe logo. A Finance24 report says the court also ruled that German clothing manufacturer Tom Tailor had infringed Adidas\' trademark by using the two parallel lines along the sleeve of a jacket. Nike was expected to be fined up to $1.3m in damages, Adidas officials said.
