Politicians vulnerable to wealthy companies - Ginwala
Former National Assembly Speaker Dr Frene Ginwala said companies who bribed SA politicians were undermining the countrys political systems and core values of its democracy.
Ginwala, says The Star, was speaking at a conference on accountability, business and human rights in Johannesburg this week. Bribe-givers had huge financial muscle and it therefore became easy for them to corrupt politicians, she said. Also speaking at the conference, ANC MP and former Cabinet Minister Professor Kader Asmal told the conference: For me as a human rights lawyer, corruption is trampling on human rights. Referring to Iraq, he said thousands of security companies were operating in Iraq protecting construction companies, but they lacked accountability under international law.
