The ANC’s national executive committee has ‘directed’ government to ‘consider constituting a task team’ to explore the possible use of quantitative easing as one measure for ‘addressing’ intergovernmental debt and making funds ‘available for developmental purposes’. According to a media statement (Polity) on the ANC national executive committee’s recent three-day lekgotla, the decision was made in the context of a resolution taken at the ruling party’s 54th elective conference, to ‘expand the mandate of the South African Reserve Bank beyond price stability to include growth and employment’.
