DA slams health departments

The National Health Department has dismissed as \'grossly misrepresenting\' a damning report by the DA on the country\'s nine Health Departments.

According to the report, no province had received a \'clean\' audit. Three reports were qualified, and in two cases, the Auditor-General issued \'disclaimers of opinion\' as the departments’ finances were in too much of a \'state of disorder\' to be able to reach any conclusions, notes The Citizen. In one of the worst-case scenarios, the Eastern Cape’s records for leave totalled R787m, and could not be verified because of \'incomplete or missing information\'. Other areas highlighted by the DA included the mismanagement of tendering and procurement procedures, corruption and poor management of infrastructure grants and wasteful and inefficient patient billing systems and management of assets.
