Legislation: Critical Infrastructure Protection Act gazetted

The 2017 Critical Infrastructure Protection Bill has been signed into law and the Act gazetted for information. It has yet to come into force. Once operational, it will repeal the 1980 National Key Points Act – requiring all complexes classified as critical under that statute to be reviewed within five years, notes Pam Saxby for Legalbrief Policy Watch. Providing for the establishment of a critical infrastructure council, the new piece of legislation is expected to ensure the transparent identification and declaration of key state institutions and complexes, along with their safeguarding and resilience.
