Land audit kicks off

Zimbabwe has begun its land audit as part of efforts to address some of the problems encountered during its controversial land reform programme. The Herald reports that the Zimbabwe Land Commission has deployed teams of 60 enumerators in all eight farming provinces ‘for the comprehensive agricultural land audit’ which is under way. The exercise is expected to end on 24 November. ‘We will also identify the challenges and constraints being faced by the farmers in successfully addressing the agrarian reform agenda,’ said commission chairperson Tendai Bare. He added that it would also identify land utilisation patterns and optimal farming activities which influenced appropriate policies for increased agricultural production, poverty alleviation and the sustainable use of agricultural land.
