Will Tanzania abide by landmark albinism ruling?

Tanzania, a country repeatedly litigated against in the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, has once again been found wanting in its protection of basic human rights. This time the court says that Tanzania’s approach to protecting the country’s community of people with albinism is sadly inadequate and that as a result their human rights are being violated. The court has set out a list of reparations that Tanzania must implement to ensure that this is redressed. It’s a landmark decision for the protection of people with albinism in Africa and must be welcomed. But, notes Carmel Rickard in her A Matter of Justice column on the Legalbrief site, given the dismissive attitude of Tanzania to previous judgments by the court, it’s not clear whether the orders of this new court decision will be implemented.
