Whistle-blower centre launched
Ghanaian investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has launched a self-funded organisation designed to provide protection, safe houses, legal services and advocacy for journalists and whistle-blowers in Africa. BBC News reports that the newly launched Whistle-blowers and Journalists' Safety International Centre is hosting seven whistle-blowers and journalists from around the continent. Legalbrief reports that Anas found global fame with his investigation into the countries' corrupt judiciary which resulted in the removal of 13 High Court judges, 20 lower court judges and 19 Judicial Service court registrars and interpreters. The safety of journalists and whistle-blowers across Africa has come under scrutiny amid concerns from international human rights organisations over the narrowing space for democratic expression and freedom across Africa.
