TikTok stars face human trafficking probe
Prosecutors in Egypt are now investigating two TikTok influencers for human trafficking. This after prison sentences against them on charges of debauchery were dropped last week. BBC News reports that the public prosecutor has ordered the continued detention of Haneen Hossam and Mawada al-Adham while the investigation continues. In July, they were sentenced to two years in prison, and fined $19 000. CNN reports that Mawada Eladhm has 3.1m followers on TikTok and 1.6m followers on Instagram, and gained fame for posting lip syncing and dance videos. The prosecutor says they exploited teenage girls by encouraging them to post similar videos to theirs on social media.
