19: Another executive who worked for the German retailer Steinfoff is set to go on trial for tax evasion. The 64-year-old German executive, who has not yet been named, will go on trial today for helping Steinhoff's European businesses evade €26m in tax between 2008 and 2012 (Oldenburg). 

 

19: President Cyril Ramaphosa has, by proclamation in the Government Gazette, announced that the SA Postbank Limited Amendment Act will come into force today. The Act aims to amend the SA Postbank Limited Act, 2010, so as to amend provisions that may negatively affect the operational autonomy and independence of the Office for Banks.

 

19-24: The Export Council for Engineering Industries in Egypt is organising a trade mission to Tripoli, Misrata and Benghazi. The council said the Trade mission will include Egyptian companies working in various fields, including: the electrical, car batteries, heavy car spare parts, home appliances, lighting, agricultural machinery, and equipment, and building materials sectors.

 

19-26: SA will return to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) next week, joining over 50 states and three international organisations for public hearings on the request for an advisory opinion on Israel's decades-long occupation of Palestinian territories. The public hearings relate to the request by the UN General Assembly for an advisory opinion on The Legal Consequences arising from the Policies and Practices of Israel in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem. On conclusion of the public hearings, the ICJ will then deliberate and issue an advisory opinion (The Hague).

 

20: The accused in custody for the shooting of prominent South African attorney Camagu Maseti will appear in court. Two of the suspects are the victim's nephews. The men face charges of conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, and impersonating a police officer. Senior prosecutor Wayne Jafta said the state opposed their release on bail. It is alleged they acted in common purpose and planned the hit (East London).

 

20: The Centre for Social Justice (SCJ) presents the 5th Annual Social Justice Lecture, commemorating World Social Justice Day. Hosted by the director of the CSJ, Professor Thuli Madonsela, this year the prestigious event will feature South Africa’s Public Protector, Advocate Kholeka Gcaleka, as the keynote speaker (Stellenbosch).

 

20-22: The 5th annual Ocean Innovation Africa Summit. Set within the African Ocean impact space, the summit aims to inspire more impact entrepreneurs, entice private investors, and catalyse partnerships for a sustainable and equitable ocean economy from all over the world. Although the strong focus remains within the context of the African Blue Economy, the event will expect delegates from all over the world to attend (Cape Town).

 

21: Connected Banking Summit. Global executives, experts and leaders will gather to propel the banking industry into the future. The summit, part of the Connected Banking Series, is dedicated to accelerating digital transformation, ensuring top-tier customer experiences within regulatory frameworks, and upholding paramount levels of security and privacy (Accra).

* Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo has replaced his Finance Minister as the West African nation looks to secure an agreement with commercial creditors on restructuring its debt and before elections in December. Mohammed Amin Adam, currently the Minister of State for Finance, will replace Ken Ofori-Atta with immediate effect, the president said. Twelve other ministers and 10 deputy ministers were relieved of their duties in the reshuffle, he said.
