27: The trial of the perpetrators of the 2009 Guinea stadium massacre continues today. On 4 November, armed commandos assisted former dictator Moussa Dadis Camara and other officials in their escape from prison. While Camara was recaptured, Colonel Claude Pivi remains on the run. The jailbreak raised fears that the trial, which opened in 2022, would be interrupted. The trial is over a massacre that took place in 2009 during Camara’s presidency. According to a UN-mandated commission of inquiry, at least 156 people were killed and at least 109 women were raped (Conakry).

27: The US and Egypt are discussing mechanisms to increase the flow of aid into Gaza and to facilitate the safe exit of foreign nationals (Washington DC).

27-28: South Africa is to appear before UN’s committee on the elimination of racial discrimination. The committee is to consider reports submitted by trade union Solidarity to the International Labour Organisation about affirmative action laws. Solidarity said it aims to bring further international awareness to the alarming levels of discrimination, race-based legislation and hate speech directed at minorities in South Africa (New York).

* The deputy chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Moussa al-Kouni is holding talks with Denis Sassou Nguesso, chairperson of the African Union High-Level Committee on Libya, on the latest developments in the political situation in the country and ways of supporting the efforts of the Presidential Council to achieve stability (Tripoli).

* Armed clashes erupted in Sierra Leone’s capital Freetown on Sunday in what the government said was an attack on a military armoury, as it imposed an immediate national curfew. The government said those attempting to break into the armoury at a major army barracks had been repelled, but the public was asked to stay at home.

* Days after South Africa laid a charge against Israel for war crimes at the International Criminal Court, it has served notice that it will also petition the International Court of Justice to declare it an apartheid state. This is according to International Relations & Co-operation Minister Naledi Pandor in response to a parliamentary question on Thursday.
