The Tanzania Daily News reports that 138 fraud suspects have been released from prisons around the country after receiving amnesty granted by President John Magufuli. This after they agreed to compensate the government billions of shillings they allegedly obtained through ‘illegal channels’. The released prisoners include a bank CEO and several ‘renowned’ advocates. Presidential spokesperson Gerson Msigwa said 500 more suspects also applied ‘and the process is ongoing’.
