Tanzania rejects accusations over disputed poll

A Tanzanian Government spokesperson has issued a warning to local journalists about quoting foreign organisations and representatives. This after US and UK diplomats released a statement criticising the recent local elections, saying they were marred with irregularities and questioned the results. BBC News reports that the ruling party won 99.9% of the seats with all major opposition parties boycotting the poll over alleged intimidation and government interference in the registration process. Hassan Abbas said ‘government has done enough explaining, given enough warnings and enough pardons … now we will take stern legal measures’.
