Stink over 'confiscated' piglets

Two unemployed Ugandan men have appeared in court on charges of smuggling piglets into Parliament in a protest over corruption and unemployment.

According to a report on the News24 site, Norman Tumuhimbise and Robert Mayanja used the hearing at Kampala's City Hall Magistrate Court to demand that the animals be handed back for use in further anti-government protests by their group, the 'Jobless Brotherhood'. The report says the activists deny charges of interrupting parliamentary activities, criminal trespass and conspiracy to sneak piglets into Parliament. The case was adjourned to 8 October, although they are also facing charges related to another demonstration, the report states. The Parliament protest sparked a major security scare and initially prompted a terrorism probe. 'We want them back and we will get them,' Tumuhimbise said, according to the report. The animals which were confiscated are reportedly being held on a government-run farm. Full report on the News24 site
