South Sudan targets UN radio station

South Sudan has suspended a UN radio station for allegedly refusing to comply with the country's media laws, although the station has not yet been taken off the air. Legalbrief reports that the Media Authority, an independent body charged with regulating the media, said it was shutting down Radio Miraya for ‘persistent non-compliance’ and its refusal to be regulated under domestic laws. A report on the eNCA site notes that the station bills itself as an independent radio station that provides impartial news and information. Run by the UN mission in South Sudan, Radio Miraya started broadcasting in 2006.
