The bad blood between Somalia and the semi-autonomous state of Jubaland has intensified with the arrest of Jubaland’s Security Minister Abdirashid Janan. A report on the allAfrica site notes that police who detained Janan shortly after his arrival at the Mogadishu airport from Dolow on Saturday are accusing him of ‘serious crimes which are currently under investigation’. They did not elaborate. Deputy police commissioner Zakia Hussen said the authorities were now monitoring all passengers entering Jubaland. Legalbrief reports that Islamist militants in 2006 gained control of most of Jubaland and a new autonomous administration dubbed Azania was formalised in 2012.
